John was born and raised in Iowa before settling in Chandler, Arizona. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he majored in Acting and Technical Theater. He is married to his high school sweetheart and has two children (Mason and Zoey). John is the owner of PairMate Data Cable Products; a company that specializes in manufacturing custom voice, data and audio/video cabling and products, the owner of Watashi No Dojo; a martial arts school, and a film and stage actor and stunt fighter.His hobbies include acting, singing, dancing, martial arts, reading and, of course, debunking claims of hauntings.
